Surajkund festival
In Haryana, the people have a religious bent of mind
and take their adversities and hard condition with a
certain amount of stoicism. The chief diversion is provided
by fairs and melas held at fixed places. Some of these
fairs have religious significance and usually people
gather around a temple of Shivji. At other places, a
miniature shopping centre would arise sometimes near
a town or close to a river bank and people in thousands
flock there to buy and sell or simply to wander about
to spend a day in relaxation. Invariably there would
be wrestling bouts towards the close of the day attracting
the largest crowd. Wrestling used to be very popular
in Haryana, particularly in the districts of Rohtak,
Hissar and neighbouring Jind and Mahendragarh.
